One of the best ways to stay in Canada permanently is through the owner-operator LMIA program. The Scheme allows foreigners to earn additional points in the IRCC Express Entry System, enhancing their chances of receiving ITA (Invitation To Apply) from the Canada Government to apply for residence application. The difficulty with this approach is that most foreign nationals find it difficult to enter Canada on a work permit.
This is due to the fact that Canadian companies demand a LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) for the position. This requires employers to advertise their vacancies to Canadian workers. However, to address this issue, the Canadian federal government has launched a program called Owner Operator LMIA.
How does the program work?
There is a two-step application procedure for this program. The first step is for the business owner to apply to the ESDC (Employment and Skills Development Canada) office in order to obtain a favourable LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment). Following receipt of a positive LMIA the applicant shall be granted an LMIA work visa to Canada for a period of up to two years.
As soon as the applicant has obtained his or her work visa. They will be able to apply for permanent residence under the IRCC Express Entry Scheme.
